Default Martinique Fishing Tournament

Greetings! I am new to the forum. I have been reading alot of posts and other informative articles and I am looking for some info/advice.

I will be fishing the Martinique Int'l Fishing Tournamnet in the beginning of November. I will be on an experienced boat out of Trinidad in the W.I.

Although, I primarily fish offshore in S. Florida and in the Bahamas, I have never been fortunate to hook up with a BLUE. What advice can you guys/girls give me on fishing in Martinique and what I can expect and/or what is the crew expecting of me during the tournament?

The crew are friends of mine and we have all fished recreationally, so i know they have invited me because they want me to be involved and may view me as an asset on the team, but I do not want to f/up.

Thanks.

Default Maybe I can help

yeah man, from the name i see i believe u will be fishing with my boys dellas and wally on the GUD TYMES. I usually fish the tobago tournaments and wally fishes with me on my boat. last TTGFT i fished with dellas on the Play hookey we did well tagged 3 blues and 1 tuna. Wally and dellas are versed in the marlin fishing, dellas will probably drive and wally man the spread. he hardly angles so i m sure either you or danny agostini would angle. Marlin fishing will be the thrill of your life, it can get boring sometimes but dont worry about it 1 bite is all u ll be looking for. if your not angling, one thing i can tell u is get the spread and teasers out of the water ASAP when hooked up. and after that just listen to the instructions turning the chair etc etc. You should be more than fine if u fish offshore alot. Anyway.. when u see dellas an wall in November... tell dem travo say doh MOVE d RUCKUS.

Default Scene, thanks

thanks for the reply. yeah i know danny and dellas and wally real good and I am real looking forward to fishing with them men.

when I was living in Trini, I wasn't really on the fishing scene, although I wish i was. I was only into the tarpon thing and mostly gyal and rum. hehe.

since I now live in Ft. Liquordale, I still real into the gyal and rum thing and but real into fishing now. Addicted or Pe-ong as dellas is call me. i fished hard in the bahamas this summer and came close to my 1st marlin hookup in Exuma but he just wanted to play.

offshore here in s. florida is decent. cavally/snook/tarpon in the canals and intercoastals, kingfish & dolphin year round but bigger dolphing in spring and summer, wahoo in the winter and nuff wrecks for grouper and snapper. sailfish bite is insane from the end of september until about february and the sword bite is real hot aswell. the grounds are about 15 to 30 minutes offshore and can make for big shark hook up too.

but... I real looking forward to this marlin tourney, especially with these men. should be a time.

fellas thanks and when you make it up on this side, hit me up. EZ-Dogg 954.232.8481 www.FATBOYFISHINGTEAM.com

Fished the martinique tournament last year we were tied up next to play hookey for the tournament good set of fellas. alot of fishing around the fads we raised a couple fish but could not sink the point in any. got a good chance of catching a blue alot of small fish around the fads but watch out for the local fishermen. will not be making it this year but maybe next. need some more of the trini boats up here for our tournament they dont know when it will be next year because of the cricket but i dont think it will clash with the tt tourny. want to try out the sword thing here but gotta get some more gear first sounds like the lights are the key. anyways out for now lata

i would like to try the sword fish outside tobago as well. right now we are just getting some info from fpeople we knowwho captain long liners. They have said tobago has alot of swordfish to be caught. So it is something i would like to get into, much rather do that than catch kingfish or something of that sort.

Just came off the phone with Frothy on the scene up in St Lucia and Martinique. He has just returned from Winning the St Lucia Billfish Tournament with 4 tagged marlin and one landed at 407 LBS.

The fishing was great for that Tournament as only 18 boats managed 28 Bill fish releases and one Landed.
It seem that all the fish held on the Fads that the Martinique Government Put down in the St Lucia / Martinique Channel.

John, I see you are stoked for the up coming trip... it will be a blast and once the fishing stands up you will get a good shot at a Blue Girl.

Looking forward to soaking in some rum with you guys and if all is good catching some creatures with long noses and PHAT SIDES.

Later Dudes

Default Wally

Wally, waz happnin man. Yes I am real looking forward to this trip dread. In fact, I cannot wait!

I will be in Trini in 10 days and it cannot come soon enough. I have been flying like a mad man criss crossing the globe. Was in Italy, the Azores, Bermuda & the Bahamas all on Saturday gone. Yesterday I was in NY and today I am in LA. MUDDACU*%

I have not fished in over a month and I am going mad. Anyhow, a next couple days and I should be back in Ft. Lauderdale and get to slack a line. Sunday, I hope.

The weather is dipping and that means sailfish time and multiple hookups. Cannot wait for that!

*About the swording...people have different methods like in any other fishing and there are men that will head out 10-15 times without hooking up no matter how hot that bite is but the principle is pretty basic.

Regarding rigging/bait and info, this site is probably the best.

Big squid rigged with 10/0 is what we use. 400# test leader. We normally have 3 or 4 lines out at different depths, the deepest being closest to the boat. Bait Depths would be 150' 300' 400' and deeper or shallower depending on results and structure.

The main thing would be to locate the structure where you were going to set up. We use glow sticks with rubber bands that will be rigged about 10' or 15' above the squid. Some men also use multiple glow sticks all the way up the line (10 or more sticks sometimes) A hydrowglow light is cool, but REAL $$ and is not required. We primarily fish these slobs @ night so a 2 litre bottle or balloon with a glow stick in it helps keep your eyes on the rigs.

****You bound to hook up with sharks with these rigs. Be ready!

We have canyons or rising structure approx. 15nm to the ESE of Ft. Lauderdale, Miami that we normally set up in which puts you in the vicinity of the Gulfstream. We will start or set/up and drift South of Miami so that by the time we head in we would have drifted North to the inlet near home in Ft. Lauderdale.

The Longlining scene SUCKS and plagues Trinidad & Tobago waters and should be banned before they rape our waters like what happened to Jamaica. In S. Florida, we call in ALL of our catches/hookups to a 1-800 number to show that we are catching our quota so as to keep the longliners out.

Also, as the pioneers down there, you all should set up an IGFA or TTGFA length standard for keeper fish, the rest should be released. That is my $.02

Good luck. Wally, see you in a couple a days and tell Dellas I get the things he wanted.

EZ,
Dogg
