Hi,
Was wondering if any one could help me with making resin heads at home? In this part of the world they're hard to come by and really expensive. I need to work out a way of making them. I have no problem with metal jet heads as I can get them turned here. Are there any ready made moulds available into which the resin can be poured? Have looked around but never came up with much. Thanks in advance. Regards, Indian Angler. |

Indian Angler,
The best way i've found is to make your own mold. You can use molding compounds available at art supply stores. Find a head you like or design your own. after your mold is cured, use a cocktail straw or tube in the mold to pass your leader through. The resin can be drilled later also. After pouring your resin, the resin will heat up as it cures. If use a coctail straw fill with wire so it does not collapse during curing. Good Luck - hope this helps. Rig em up |

email me off board if you like, I make lures at home using molds I make from scratch. if you want to try something simple use a 35 mm film canister, coctail straw, egg sinker and squid skirt(s) drill a hoile in the center of the cannister just big enough to jam the straw through and still seal, feed the straw through the egg sinker and put it all into the head of the squid skirt mix up your resin, and fiddle it all into the film cannister making sure you get all the air out let sit overnight, peel off the cannister and brush on more resin to give it a shiny coat, it will come out dull from the inside of the cannister being less than mirror smooth. thats how I made my first lure, it pulled great. you can develop your technique from there, I have ended up with an entire business making high end lures as good as any other on the market. |
