Way too many people release Marlin after tagging and reviving. They see the fish swim away on its own power and they feel good inside. If that fish has been seriously stressed,or chaffing from the leader removes too much slime from its body or it was injured during the fight;the Marlin could hold off for a time before succumbing to cryptic mortality. That is just a fact that will continue to exist. On the other hand, if that fish was eaten and not wasted, that is something you can feel very good about. That is where fishing started. That is where fishing will once again return.

Havent yet had the pleasure of releasing a marlin yet, but I did catch and
release a sailfish on a trip to costa rica. I think as long as the crew feels confident in releasing the fish i would be fine with that. Although if i ever do catch a monster marlin i would rather release than keep. At least thats the way i feel now. We will see when hes on my line ??? :?:
