My dad and I wanted to try another long shot at the YFT after none to show for the MAW. Plan was to fish between the Bell bank and the 1067 knuckle.
Got off to a bad start when the 15 freeway was closed and took over an hour to run through the detours. Arrived at the boat at 1:30am and thought wow its kind of late so load the boat and off we go. Went to
Cimarron’s and got a kick ass scoop of cured deans. The water so flat on the way out that it didn’t seam real after the last few trips.
My dad wanted to catch some zzzz’s so I set the course and kicked on the radar, after 12NM went into a very think fog bank not knowing how long it was going to last kept going. At 6am we were only 55 miles just north of the 213 still foggy so change of plans, headed to the D-220’s stopped on 10 or so very nice paddy’s on the way also saw a huge spot of breaking fish right on the 213 stopped on them for nothing.
Long story short we didn’t get down into the “zone” until the bite had shut down, so feeling pretty bummed started trolling home at about 4pm up the 1010 trench stopping on paddy’s and trolling though porpoise in 69 degree water for nothing. I had put on a 12” Cedar plug hoping a Big Eye would jump on it coming up the trench. Very tired I fell asleep and about 30 mins later hear the turbo kick in, My dad said I think I see a fish jumping “it’s not small either”.
After getting up and looking around he said it was right in here and the cedar plug goes off ZZZZZZZZZZ holy #### this is a huge fish, then after 2 mins a marlin comes flying out of the water and we are stoked. We have never caught a marlin and didn’t really know what to do, so after 45 mins and some serious backing down he was to the boat, my dad had been pulling on him for about 15 mins at this point so I put on some gloves and did what I had seen on TV (probably not the smartest thing to do). I grab the leader and then the bill, grab the jig and cut the leader.
Beautiful fish and to watch him swim away unharmed was awesome!!!!! Had a wonderful time on the lake with my dad..
