I talked to the guys on the radio last night... they said they had a blue in the boat! That's very cool!

Not so cool if you ask me.

BTW, did they call it in to NMFS. Marlin must be reported just like swords.

Speaking of that point, why the hck do so many of you guys not report your fish?

Just for the fun of it, I counted the swords posted on this forum and Flasportsman between the last two reported fish I had. Over the period between my report number 645, and my next fish 655, I counted at least 26 swordfish catch posts, most with pictures. That sample alone says less than half of you are reporting your fish.

I spend a lot of my time reading, no studying, the proposed rules, longline permits, Exempt fisher permits, research permits, rule changes, etc. I publicly comment on every proposed rule, file my comments with NMFS, lobby NMFS, fight with NMFS, etc.

All of this is to protect our stake at keeping our access to these fish.

By not reporting fish, you are making my job harder, and you are loosing your stake at these fish in the future when regulations will significantly affect our ability to catch these fish.

NMFS would like nothing more than to fully open up our closure area to longlines if for no other reason but to protect our stake at the 29% of the North Atlantic quota which we now own.

Report you fish. Report every single one of them.

If you report your fish with all the proper information as follows: NMFS doesn't have to talk to you, they will call with a confirmation number and leave it on your voice mail.

Info needed:
Boat name
Date and time of trip start
Date and time of trip finish
ljfl of catch
Hook, circle or J
Bait, dead or live
Length of fight
HMS permit number
Return phone number

REPORT YOUR FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NMFS staff are no dummies. They watch each of these forums, NMFS enforcement is keeping a list of boats who post but don't call in.

Sooner or later, NMFS enforcement is going to have a period of time with nothing to do, and they will set up an enforcement action to check out the boats they know don't report. I hope they pick a few violators to make examples of

BTW, some of you may have heard that one of the unscrupulous bouy boats way up North was caught with undersized fish and is now under serious enforcement action for that violation. BTW, it is not one of the bouy guys you know and here from on these forums. It was a former longliner working bouys North of most boats.

Well put Ron. REPORT YOUR CATCH

As for the Blue Marlin, I'm sure they fought it to the boat thinking it was a sword and it came up dead.. nothing you can do there...

I make sure all my fish get confirmation numbers. My last # was fl633 and I'm still waiting for my confirmation #'s on my last 3 fish from Sunday and thursday night's catch. I think a few people are still confused as to weather it is good or bad to report. I think a few people have the misconception that reporting will hurt our fishery. Then again some people just don't give a @*&# and live life 1 day at a time like there's no tomorrow.

Hey Ron, I didn't knew they killed it... in that case... not so cool.
When we went to Mitch's place to clean the fish, he reminded us to call in our swordy... we did first thing the next day! PLEASE report your catches!! We need to keep the longliner out of here!

If you say it came up dead, I'll take your word on it.

If we don't report our fish, They will say we don't have them and give our
catches to some other country and close us down.
Don't let it happen! REPORT even if you are late calling them in.
