Default Hatchet Marlin

This Hatchet was caught 7/5/09, off Funchal, Madeira, on a chartreuse squid.

Looks like a white marlin with a damaged dorsal fin. I understood that the hatchet 'chop' was on the anal fin which is squared off instead of rounded like a regular white. Unfortunately we can not see the anal fin in your photos, do you have any pictures?

also if you run your hand forward up the fish the white marlin scales with catch your hand, the hatchet marlin (roundscale spearfish) will not

nice catch none the less.

I don't have any pictures of the anal fin, but the vent was approx. 6" from the fin. We kept some scales on the boat, and Capt. Bristow indicated that it is indeed a Hatchet Marlin.
