XVIII Pasito Blanco (Gran Canaria-Spain) Tournament Report

The last week end our boat has participated on the XVII Tournament 'Pasito blanco', but without good luck. The last day, we lost a 'Cornuda' (Hammerhead), about 150 kg., and an amazing marlin strike.

First, a 'Dorado' (Dolphin fish, coriphanea hippurus) attacks the central lure; when i'm coming to the rod, to catch them, one blue Marlin attacks the long corner lure, first, running 50 meters, with the lure in the mouth, then spits the lure, jump and attacks the dolphin. After few minutes, i'm thinking all is finished, and i take the line with the hands, to catch the dolphin... ¡¡¡BAAAMMM!!! new attack, in down-to-up direction, cutting in half the dolphin, jumping, removing the line off my hands, and leaving me with my mouth well open.

In summary, three days fishing, 36 boats, 25 blue marlins tagged and released, three tunas, and only three blues killed, with 275, 282 and 362 kg. The fish of 362 kg. win an special prize, a Volvo S40 car, for a friend, Jose 'El Negro' (Joe the black), captain of the boat "Garvi".

The winner is the 'Dorado I', with two blue marlins tagged and released.

Have you ever fished in the Balleric Islands? I will be heading to Soller on Majorca in August of 06 for my 10 year anniversary. Just curious if there is any offshore fishing charters available. Gracias

I'm born in Mallorca, Balearic Islands, in the middle of the west Mediterranean sea, but from 10 years ago, i live in the Canary Islands, just in the west face of the Sahara. I know well the fishes and fisheries of Mallorca. Dont waste your time and your money. No good fishing in Balearic Islands.

Soller it's a very very beatiful village. Close to my born village, Port Andratx.
