Heres a marlin that was caught on Sunday afternoon on one of the charter boats called Hit-N-Run took them 6 hours and would of been a cayman islands record but was handled by more then one angler so not sure what they are going to do i don't think it should be a record, but it still is a great fish!
heres a link for more information: Cayman Angler - New Cayman Islands Marlin Record |

Well, the 610.9 lbs blue marlin is the recorded that was caught on Sunday, and it should stand! The fish was handled ONLY by one angler and one angler ONLY! That a fact! Because I was there, and a witnessed the entire catch. I am the chairman and organizer of this private tournament that we have each year and I know the rules of a legal catch. And another fact it took 5 hours to land the fish, not six. Anyone that said there were more then one angler; I would call them an out right liar!

Well, I will tell you who Big Op is; UN like you, Big Op was actually on the boat when it was caught, that's how I witnessed it!! I know it was not during the Cayman tournament, it was a private tournament that we hold each year a week after the Cayman tournament that I put together and organize! I know that the captain Darrin of the Hit-N-Run never said anything like that, you just made that crap up! Matter of fact I talked with him last night, and asked him about all the bullshit and rumors that going on about this fish, he told me there just a lot of jealous people and what people don’t know they will just make up! Well, now that I have identified my self to you, who the hell is Unreel? Because that's what the hell you are being, is UNREEL! Dude, the bottom line is that it was the largest fish ever caught in the Caymans, Period!
Don’t hate on the fisherman and captain, because maybe one day you just might have this opportunities as well, but than again maybe not. This is a truly a life time accomplishment for anyone, and it should be renowned that way as well! So if there is anything else would like to know, about the day Maria was caught, just ask me, don’t just go on making things up, because you are not very convincing when you don’t have the facts!

Because when we finally got it to the boat it was not moving, we tried to revive it for about ½ hour but the fish was not moving. That’s when we declared it dead. That night at the Calypso grill, there were people talking on the docks about the fish was foul hooked. We heard it was hooked in the tail, hooked in the back, hooked in the stomach as well as it must have been hooked with two poles. This was as we were pulling up to the dock before anyone even seen the fish. WOW! I know because we had four other buddies on the dock waiting for us as they told us of the rumors that were flying around. So we departed the Calypso and headed to the yacht club to weight the fish. When we arrived at the yacht club docks, I as well heard the rumors; I was very sort in correcting the people that were talking about a possible foul hook! Our group has never killed a billfish of any type in our 25 years of fishing for any reason or purpose. Trust me; we were not very happy about losing this fish! We would have been more then happy to released it, but it was not meant to be, the fish died naturally from the fight. I wish you could have seen the power of this fish and the speed, if this fish was hooked anywhere other then in the jaw, it would have ripped the hook out in seconds. It was not like anyone made any money on the fish, and we never intended too or wonted too either. It was donated to the Pines (retirement home) to feed the local people of the Cayman Island. I hope this clarifies any questions that you may have, if not, please ask me, and I will reply.
Thank you, Big Op

ok well sorry if they were rumors but i herd this second hand and posted this fish to congratulate you guys and when u came back all angry about it. it got me pissed off because all i was trying to do was tell people about this great fish and show people that cayman as some great fish, but anyways congrats on the fish and if your not lieing about the fish being handled by more then one angler then i hope it becomes a record and you saying that they don't want to give the record to a tourist does not make sense cause half our records are held by tourist and non caymanian's big op how long you been doing this tournament and did u catch any other nice fish in the past years ?

Good report big op and unreel. You guys should meet up and go fishing sometime. It is all good and rumors are rumors so now that the truth is out it is all good.
By the way I really thought the mount of the big blue in the airport was the record blue caught there on the Sea Eagle and it went 700lbs.

I guess I was wrong the old record was 585lbs.Here is a news story on the catch.
Marlin will feed Pines By Ron Shillingford, ron@cfp.ky Tuesday 29th April, 2008 Posted: 13:58 CIT (18:58 GMT) > Comment on this story An American tourist has smashed one of Cayman’s oldest fishing records. Jim Allen was the lucky fisherman who snared a 610lbs blue marlin on Sunday. Allen, his brother Tim and seven buddies flew in from the United States and had the competition between themselves in two boats. The giant fish which took five hours to reel in, beat the 24–year–old record by 26lbs. The world is over 1,200lbs. The ironic thing is that had Allen caught the marlin a week earlier, at the Cayman Islands Fishing Tournament, he would have earned thousands instead of the few bucks he received from his mates. Darren Ebanks was the captain of the boat, Hit and Run, that Allen caught the fish four miles off the turtle farm bank. “I’ve caught a lot of big fish and knew for sure this was probably the biggest when after two hours we couldn’t gain anything on the fish,” said Ebanks. “I saw the fish when it first bit but didn’t get a good look at it. “We knew it was big but not how big it was. When I first saw it come out of the water I couldn’t believe how big it was. “We filleting it right now and donating it to The Pines (retirement home). That should feed a few people!”
