Default Cabo Recap Numero Dos

Just got back from my New Years Eve trip to Cabo. We got down there on the 30th and since the next two days were New Years eve and New Years day we couldnt get anybody to take us fishing until the 2nd. So we hung out and partied and went to Cabo Wabo for New years and saw Sammy Hagar play some rock and roll and party with his guests. GREAT party and a total blast!

Finally we got to go out fishing. I took Diane and my stepsons Clay and Derrek and fished the Pochos boat Outcast. We ran about 28 miles NW to an underwater seamount called Golden Gate. There is so much life there it is incredible! We saw Pilot whales, sea lions, seals, birds and of course free jumping marlin everywhere. Anywhere that you dropped your sabiki you would bring up a full stringer of tinker mackeral. We set out our lines and immediately got a Marlin on but he pulled off with Derrek in the chair. We got another bite and Derrek reeled in a 25 to 30 lb Mako shark but he chewed thru the light leader at the boat when the mate tried to gaff him. I brought a 50 lb Mako to the boat but he chewed his way to freedom when the mate missed on two gaff shots. Finally Derrek caught a nice 25 lb Mako and I followed with a 30 lber that we were able to get in the boat. Then we started catching striped marlin. The bite was on! We were fishing with 30 and 40 lb test line on TLD 25s with 80 lb Momoi flourocarbon leader. We got 10 year old Clay in the chair and he caught the first. You had to see the excitement and pride in his face. Then we got 25 yo Derrek in the chair and he caught one. His didnt come as easily and his little brother was talking sht the entire time, but that is Clay. While they were in the chair I was catching others standing up. At the end of the day we had gone 6 for 9 on Stripers and came in the laundry flying! Not bad for day one but we weren't finished.

The next day we went out again but this time just Diane and I. It was even hotter that day! We ended up with 18 Marlin hookups but had some bad luck with pulled hooks and broke some line and leader fighting the fish. We told them when we left that we wanted to catch double digits and we should have, but lady luck would not have it. We had caught eight when I got hooked up with a very strong fish which I fought for over an hour and a half on standup gear. While I was fighting that one, Diane got hooked up and caught a marlin in the chair. We chased that tenth fish all over the ocean and actually had to take a rod with a fish on it from another boat at the stern and then give it back at the bow as we chased our fish. We had the fish close many times but couldnt get him to come to the boat. We thought that probably the fish was wrapped in the leader. After all that time and with the fish close, the Allbright failed and we had to settle for 9 marlin releases. Nine for 18 but still a great day!

The last day that we went out, we decided that we would make it an early day since we were leaving the next day and had a lot to do. We fished till noon and ended up going 7 for 8 on striped marlin with Derrek catching another and Diane and I each catching 3. Another great day!!

We flew out the following morning with big smiles on our faces- What a great week! We caught 4 Makos and went 22 for 35 on Striped Marlin. Whether you have been there before or not, you MUST get your ass to Cabo now. The bite is ON!!

We pitched the live baits at fish when they were balling bait and otherwise set up and drifted them. No trolling this time. When I was there in October and the bite slowed down, we trolled some ballyhoo that I had brought and raised some fish.

Rich, great report and congrats to all on the nice fish . We will be there in October looking to tangle with the marlin again. Took this year off and can't wait to get back down there once again. Your report was thrilling and is getting me excited to go back!

It's just "otro." It's like you said "Thanks for posting an another great fishing report."

This is all pertinent, because you certainly come to SFC to get your lessons in proper Spanish grammar.
