Cabo Report Nov. 31-Dec. 2

I just got back from a trip to cabo. We had a great time but evidently, the marlin fishing was a little slow.
The first day we went to the Sea of Cortez side and now I understand why its said to never fish the sea of cortez side. The whole time on the Cortez side, we didnt even see a marlin. We wound up with three schoolie yellowfin and a baby mako shark. We decided to go over to the pacific side with one hour left of our 8 hour day. We trolled around and almost instantly spotted a tailing marlin. We cast to it and it inhaled before we knew what happened. it put up a good fight for 30-35 minutes. We released it and called it a day.
The second day was interesting. We trolled around for seven hours, didnt get a strike or even see a fish. Doesnt sound too much like Cabo, huh? But then we came up on a tailer and hooked up. We fought 20 minutes before we leadered it and released. 15 minutes later something slammed the right outrigger, but we missed a chance for a hookup. After we tried to entice it to bite, we decided we should move on. but thelines had been sinking that whole time, and WHZZZZZZ the shotgun got nailed. FISH ON! After a relatively short fight, 15 minutes, we released it. About 20 minutes later, on our way in, we spot a tailing marlin. We cast to it, but no success. A buddy of his comes right up next to him and swallows it. My brother also hooked into what he thought was a marlin, only to get bit off minutes later a by a wahoo. We still had a fish on though. It was so frustrating because We had two ready to go rigs before this, but the wahoo chewed off one, and the marlin was on the other. Before we knew it, there were 6 marlin surrounding our boat, but of course we couldnt even get one other. This fish jumped once, but we couldnt get a size estimate on him. He dove straight down and ran. He repeated this process about three times. Finally as we began the final pull, on what we were sure was the biggest marlin of both days, a skimpy little 90 pound striper surfaces. That was the biggest fight Ive ever had for stripers.

All in all we had a great time. We fished with Dorado charters for like $250 a day! for 8 hour days. You cannot beat Cabo marlin fishing. It is so easy to get to and cheap as dirt. But It is one of the greatest experiences of my life

Glad that you had a great time. It s an incredible place. What kind of boat did you get for $ 250 per day? -Thats very cheap.

just to let everyone know, it is fine bringing in your own tackle. If you just wrap the reels in bubble wrap, and tell them that they are fishing reels, than they will open them up and check. (always take them on carry-on). it should only take like 5 minutes. If you are taking a rod case just check it w/ oversized baggage and if you want, you can put a padlock on it. It is very easy. Just try to find a young guy to check out your reels, he will let you move quicker
