You can catch fish on regular mono leaders for sure, but why go cheap and not use the best? The difference in the cost of making your leaders out of fluorocarbon vs regular mono is worth getting an extra bite, isn't it? I guess if you lived in Cabo and had marlin waters out your back door every day it wouldn't matter, but you're going on a vacation there and want to catch fish and have the best opportunity to sack'm up, don't you? Buy fluoro.

Floro is better I've herd but I went out several times and taken different leaders on different positions on the boat like one mono left rigger one floro on right rigger and same with flat line and downrigger and switched them up and caught the same amount of fish, but on vacation and tournaments I'm floro
