Default Sierra and spanish mackerel

Ok, me and my bro have been having a big debate over whether sierra and spanish mackerel are the same thing. I thought that sierra are the pacific mackerel and spanish are the atlantic. We caught some 'sierras' out of cabo this past month, and i thought the captain mentioned something about them just being pacific

whos right; me or my bro
thanks

I'm 99 % sure a Sierra Mackerel is only found in the pacific ocean.

The common mackerals we catch here (aside from kings, bonitos) are spanish and CERO. They look very similar but you can tell them apart by the marking on the side. If I can remember correctly, the ceros have lines (that look like dashes) as well as some spots, and the spanish generally just spots, but don't quote me on that. Ceros can grow quite a bit bigger. In the Bahamas (when they don't cut off our yellowtail rigs) we can catch them up and even over 10 lbs.
Hope that helped.

he's right. Cero and spanish are the only ones here

I checked, Sierra mackerel actually get quite big... at least 30 -40 pounds judging by some of the pictures I saw but they are a Pacific - Indian Ocean fish ONLY. They can NOT be found in the Atlantic
