I want to thank everyone who is responsablefor this site. It is very informative(MIKE?).I have read every thing on this site it is a vast wealth of information about swordfishing.IM willing to flip gas money to anyone willing to take me out for a trip strickly as an observer.I would like to have first hand knowledge on setting the baits,jugs,setting up the drift.I also want to thank CAPT MITCH from fs forum for his post there is to what got me hooked on this swordfishing.I live up in stuart but will travel to whereever i got to go to catch a trip.I have been fishing in martin palm beach counties for 20years.I make 1 or 2 trips a month over to the west coast to grouper fish. CaptKen, You have a very impressive resume. I was looking over you site pictures, and you have been swording for quite some time and it is safe to say you are darn good at it.

Tabes, you are in good hands with a captain like Ken or any of the other guys. I could also use a hand during the weeks.. It looks like this whole week coming should be good.

Yea Joe, he hooked up with Bud. Unfortunately, Bud is still a hardcore livebait guy, so they were 0-3.

Hey Capt. Do you fish mostly squid in your spread? I try to fish 2 squid and 2 live baits. I know that a dead tinker gets me great hook sets. But like you said, I sometimes go 1 for 7 before gettting a good set on a live bait.

Also, when a sword just bills a squid and slices it, do you leave it down or do you swap it out? IT seems these fish are very territorial and extremely aggressive and just like to kill my baits sometimes.

As anyone who has been to one of my seminars will tell you; I subscribe to the KISS theory. I use two small squids on a 10/0 circle hook. My rationale is:
1. Not always knowing the experience level of the anglers involved, a circle hook fished straight out of a rod holder eliminates buck fever. All they have to do is crank when the clip is popped.
2. I cut open the stomachs of every fish kept and what I've found is pretty amazing. Most times if they have been eating squid, they are the smaller variety. When I do find one that has been feeding on larger squid or fish, they almost always are slashed.
3. Most times with the smaller baits, the swords will come up and just inhale them but occasionally do slash. If I do get a hit that doesn't result in a hook-up, I grab the next rod and quickly get that bait to the same depth. It's one of the other reasons I don't use jugs or balloons.

Again, as I've said countless times, I'm not knocking anyone else's way of doing things. I always end my presentations with 'Find what works for you and begin the lifelong process of tweaking the system.'

Captain Mitch, I agree 100% with you. Smaller baits ensure better hooksets. Did you say you are fishing 2 squids on 1 hook???

What do your other lines consist of. I try to fish 5 lines. 2 squid baits, 2 runners or tinkers live, and then one dead (kingfish, bonita, spanish mackeral, or something like that, and I do some surgery on it, and have some good hookup ratio's.

I just started using a stinger rig on long baits like the big tinkers, and the trailer hook hangs just by their tail... I have pulled the hooks on 3 fish so far that have it...Sometimes these fish just make us look like asses out there.. But its an addiction, nevertheless.

Yep, two small ones. That way if I do get a slasher, hopefully one bait still has a hook in it.

I have a personal issue with stingers, but it's just that - personal. However someone chooses to set-up is their business and is fine with me. I just don't believe in them.

i agree with mitch 100% i usually fish1 or 2 livies at the most..90% of my hits are on squid. i do get them on livies but u get more sharks on livies then anything. anyhow livies do work,usually have one as a tag on the surface..any how see you guys out there tonight..

I have seen Mitchs system work fist hand and no question it works and dam fine,remember an elephant will eat a peanut ! I came from the school of the bigger the bait the bigger the fish,I have opened up 300 lbers and saw squid no bigger than your little finger.
Although I caught 2 last night on squid as long as your arm.I still had small ones out to.
Just rember keep it simple,Its only complacated as you make it,You dont hafta have a gold reel and a $40 light and a $7 squid,It is possible to use a star drag reel $1 cylume stick.and a $3 dollar box of squid
