Howdy from Texas, I've been reading the excellent info on the board for the last couple of weeks. Here in Texas there's not very many people who fish broadbill, but we are willing to learn or give it hell trying. Our winter fishery includes excellent yellowfin and mako fishing from 50-fathoms and deeper...I would like to make the overnighters we take to the deep rigs and rocks more interesting. Looking to finish my Texas sport fishing slams; still missing a swordfish, blue marlin, mako and thresher. I think the mako will be the easiest done this winter and possibly I'll add a broadbill and thresher while I'm at it. Any info you experienced guys can offer is more than welcome!

Hey Capt. Lowtide:
I just wanted to chime in here to say, Hi, and accomadate Kai Akua's beckoning for a newbie swordfisherman's initiation rites. Sorry I have no other suggestions for Gulf Coast swordfishing, other than to suggest to give it a try and let us know how it fares. Generally the swordfish are caught here in the "Stream" in the 200 fathom range. But you may want to invest a few dollars and spend some time tweaking your equipment: hydraglow, waxline marks, elctrolumes or cyalumes, and a homeport chart #35, just for comparison purposes of depth and structure from our neighborhood offshore. Other than that it sounds like you are already well equipped and have that go-get-her attitude. Sounds like you have already established your addictions/ailments and have them properly adjusted. But you may just want to review the warnings and hazards of swordfishing, as Kai Akua had suggested. You might just get a good ole Texas size chuckle out of it. http://www.swordfishingcentral.com/f...opic.php?t=686 Good luck and keep us posted. RT |
