I am another lurker and have picked up a trememdous amount of fishing knowledge from this forum. The ideas and techniques shared here make fishing possible for those of us that have very limited time due to that work thing. Friday night was my 8th trip and we were 1 for 2 releasing a small pup. This was my second sword (both have been released) and I cant wait to catch a nice keeper.
There is no way I could have caught either of the swords if not for the knowledge sharing on this site. Thanks to all on this forum. |

I always hear of you guys fishing the 50. What's your water temp at the 50. Is this a temp break area or area of current? Our water is in the 50's and 60's. Doesn't seem like good water temp? Keep up the good info, I will learn or at least learn to drink better.

welcome lurkers..
Any slight temperature break will possibly hold fish. The water temp is VERY warm on the 50 line pushing about 78 degrees this time of year. If we can find a small break, it is wise to fish it. Good luck. |

50 line is a reference to the Lat lon line we fish. It's the west #. The more inshore the higher the # and vice versa for west coast.

Hey gang!
Another Texas lurker here. I have picked up a few thing that I hope to try. We have some Swords around our neck of the woods, it's just our neck of the woods is a long way out (60+ nmiles). Y'all have a great site! I enjoy coming to visit/read almost every day. Good fishing and keep coming with the posts!

I have been reading the forum for about 6 months now. Swordfishing for about the same amount of time. We put in at Homstead Bayfront, with most of our drifts starting out from Ocean Reef. We have never seen anyone else out there, but I hear a few boats fish that area.

We call it the pup zone. We have caught about 10 fish most of them under 50 inches and released. The biggest one being 61 inches. I think we are fishing too shallow. As we drift north we end up in about 1250 feet of water for most of the drift. Would we have better success out deeper? There is a deep canyon about 5 miles further out.

quackquackyquackquacker, you are a corny dude but i like your style. i just joined this swordfishin thing recently and joined this site today. i've been out three times and caught fish 2 out of the three!!! i went out with an experienced sworder. i've been fishin many years(34 to be exact)wow that's alot) but this swordin thing is really interesting! i am a quick learner and am now ready to venture off on my own boat! i will save you a seat for the voyage. i believe that the reason we didn't catch any fish the third trip was due to 2 reasons. 1) the bite was real slow that night and 2) there was a guy on the boat that kept insisting that we weren't too shallow(nearing the 52 line) do you have any words of wisdom for this guy? lolol    happy birthday eric. hope to see you soon!
