Hi everyone. I'm new to fishing out here in central Florida. If anyone has any advise on fishing tackle or what types of baits to use I would appreciate it.

Your tag says kissimmee, and that's big bass country. Fish plastic worms and grubs in dark colors if the water's dark, and light or clear if the water is clear. Maybe get some crankbaits, rat-l-traps, zara spooks. Some live crayfish or shiners will always work. I used to bass fish in the canals around my house when I was a young'n, and that stuff all worked for me. For the panfish, like shellcrackers, crappies, bluegills, etc., use little minnows, beetle spins (looks like a tiny spinnerbait with a grub body), and the venerable breadball and bobber. Crickets too. Good luck. Also, use light tackle, because its fun. 8 lb or 6lb spinners. Get a Shimano 4000 and a light rod. Use 12 or 15lb leader and you should have a blast.

I would rec a trip to Bridgewater Tackle. It is in Lake Wales, on rte 60 (Huespedes Rd) and not too far from you. They will have everything you need to get started and they are very inexpensive. You will spend 1/2 of what you would anywhere else and since they are local will know exactly what you need . They can also tell you the best places to fish. They are really nice folks. Have been there few times. |

You're also not that far from either coast. Consider a medium action spinning outfit such as a Diawa BG 15 and a medium action 7' rod. Get yourself a couple white bucktails (1 and 2 oz), a couple mirror lures, and a few troll rite jigs in different sizes for tipping with bait and toss them into the surf or creeks for a multitude of species. None of what I wrote above will set you back a lot. The freshwater advice you received was good too.
The outfit Cut mentioned is a little pricey and hard to cast. ![]() Tight lines. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Juani ![]()
