Question Deep Sea 101

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new to deep sea fishing, I have done it a few times but all I did was reel. My frineds and I now have a boat, gearand everything wer need except knowledge Can anyone direct me to or give me the basics?

We have a 26' 300hp boat,
8 rods and reals from 25-50
We have or can get most bait, ballyhoo and lures
but we don't know...

How to set up the lines...Outside lines, inside lines, weight of sinker, leaders, what to put on each line, speed, etc.

We are fishing for Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo, in the Costa Rican Pacific Area, if anyone has any GPS co ordinates that would be great too, thanks for your help guys.

please dont call it "deep sea fishing"..you dont want people to think you are a tourist, right ?
Fishing is CR is sick! Jump on some of the other thread such as the "Dolphin" one. Look at people's current reports and ask them specifically what they used as lures; so you can get familiar with the proper names. I am suggesting dolphin since it is one of the easier species to fish for. Sails in CR are pretty thick, but targeting Billfish can be dangerous to the people on the boat if you do not know what to do after catching one.
Find a friendly tackle shop in your area that will share the local knowledge and try to invite a seasoned fisherman to go out on your boat with you so you can have hands-on training
or just go out and give it your best shot with the things you learn from provided information......but its always best to actually learn from someone that actually goes with you....good luck and welcome to the forums.

Thats exactly what we did, we landed 4 sails and one dorado, it would have been impossibl to do it without the help from the mate we brought on board.

thanks again
