Just checking in as a new member. I am from FL (inshore fisherman) but recently moved to Dubai and now getting into the offshore game. Saw the board and decided to pop in.

Dubai? How's the fishing over there? What kinds of stuff do you get over in the P-gulf?

well there are 2 bodies of water that I play in. Persian Gulf (PG) and Gulf of Oman (GoO). each has its own unique fish. sails are fairly abundent here (though they are down since the building of the palm islands and the Iranians are netting them for food). Sails in the PG are smaller than in the GoO. Yellow fins are in both waters, 8 foot long cudas which are a blast to play with, kings in both, Narrowbarred Spanish MAcks are in the GoO, Swords, Blue marlin, Black marlin, 2 types of Dolphin are all in the GoO. Dolphin are also in the PG. Giant Trevally (there are like 20 or so types of trevally) in both, AJ's are in both. Jew Fish, Malabar grouper are the big groups and they are legal to catch in both waters. Got a wide assortment. Oh yeah and the sharks (Holly crap are there alot of sharks - this coming from a guy who dove regularly off the coast of Jacksonville, at night.) Tiger and bulls oh my. Lot of flats and mangroves so I still get out and try to catch a few bones on fly. Oh and if is that rare of rarest days - you can drop your line to the bottom anywhere and grab a cooler full of snapper. It is really quite good. There is no commercial fisherman (it is usually just a couple guys on a dow - no long lines is what I am getting at) fish are very abundant.
But the best part about it - the GoO is protected on both sides by mountains - so it usually glass (takes me about 2 hours to get the boat there) and since they are mountains on the water, the water drops off like it does in the lower keys if not faster. look at it on a map it is like a giant ocean cannal. if you want any specifics shoot me an PM

Thanks for the description! I had no idea the the fishing was that diverse....Probably like most, I had imagined of a big puddle in the middle of a desert.

Sound beautiful! I almost went over there back in '90, but I dobt I would have been able to fish too much!

Keep us posted on the M.E. bite!

Thanks!

yeah - the bottom of the PG is really flat with a super fine silt all over it, and the fishing is done mostly on wrecks but the sand from the deserts are dumped into it by the wind which jacks up the nutrient content of the water there, whereas the GoO there are a good number of wrecks but there is a truck load of coral heads, humps, ledges etc... and the nutrients come from it being such deep water so close to shore.
TD it was brutal - Penn 130W 200# braid and ti took 5 hours to boat the fish
