Default Chased by big nasty!

I went to do a little pre season scouting with my buddy Steve on Sun.We have some quota hunt permits for Hungry land and Dupuis.Went to Dupuis first and found some good new areas and some some cool stuff.Saw a big great horned owl a bunch of turkeys and tons of good sign. Then we drove back to Hungry land.We walked about a half mile in to a spot Steve hunted last year.We saw some great sign and trails and marked some stand sites. Then Steve said well are you ready to go into Jurassic park.I said sure lets check it out.We said he was nervous going in because all we had were knives and he had seen tons of big hogs in there.I said we would be fine any hogs would hear us and take off.We busted our way through some tight palmettos and dead fall. There was big hog tracks all over the place. We made our way to a big pond. The spot to get to the pond was under a half fallen tree and just wide enough for one person. We stood there talking for awhile and decided to head back to the truck before the bugs came out. After talking about 4 steps back along our trail a wax myrtle tree about 30 ft away shook. Then a palmetto about 20ft away.He looked at each other and said oh poop. Then at about 15ft a 200lb+ hog stuck his head out of the brush.I was hoping he would see us and run away.He did run but not away! There were no trees to climb so that only left the pond for retreat. We turned to run and Steve said grab your knife but I already had it out.We dove under the fallen tree and in to the pond.I stumbled and dropped my knife. While picking it up I had a vision of a hog going up my rear.I grabbed my knife and spun around in knee deep water ready to face our attacker. In the bush he would have tore us up but in the open and in knee deep water we had the advantage. But He just ran right though the spot we were standing. It was one of the funniest things that I can remember. We laughed our butts off the whole way out. While looking over our shoulder s of course.

Been there, done that. Having a big hog run at you definately raises the blood pressure, just one reason I carry a .45 with hollow points when scouting in the south.

Big Nasty is out there!!! In the water and on land! A good friend of mine caught an 89"er last night... the carcus should be floating down the canal and in my backyard in a few hours lol.

Quack, if you/steve ever have an extra spot for a hog hunt(guns not knives!) I'd love to go. I like to kill sh it!

Hmmm... would that kill have been considered self-defense? "Look out! It's coming at us! Kill it!"

Too funny about the hog attack. Seriously though, a friend of mine out by Lakeport got slashed by a tusk and it went right to the bone on his calf. Those tusks are like razor blades especially with all the weight behind them.
Good thing it was not injured...200 pounds with tusks versus knife

Sounds like fun Quack! I has had a few run ins with hogs. The funniest was getting chased thru suger cane up a muddy hill. I got a 10 second head start on my buddy, so the pig would have got him first

Good thing is you know where he stays now! He won't be to far away from that waterhole.
