Default Wife's First Hog Hunting Report

Hi All!
Mrs. TD here. Quack Quack says I should make a hunting report of my first hog hunt. So here goes:

It was about 4 in the afternoon in Port Mayoca and we met our Argentinian guide, Joaquim, who was soft-spoken, 6'4", patient and seemed truly in touch with the surrounding 2400 acres of sugar cane fields.

We set out on foot and found a group/herd of hogs. There were a couple of adolescent boars, one giant sow and a bunch of little piglets. They were pretty far away and we had to stalk them into the sugar cane. Of course they could burrow deeper into the cane than we could, so there was about a distance of 10-15 yards between us and them. We could hear them snorting and grunting, and a little farther away, some of them were squealing. I'm terrified. The guide whispered that they were fighting and we tried to keep down wind of them. Apparently, they have terrible eyesight, but an incredible sense of smell. Also, he told us that they're about 6x smarter than deer. Anyway, they must have picked up our scent, and they went off without us being able to make a shot.

About an hour later, we saw my sow about 300 yards away and Joaquim whispers to me as I'm trying to quietly follow in his giant footsteps that this is my hog and that I'm going to kill him. Now I'm really excited as we try to creep up on the sow. We get about 200 yards away and set up the tripod and rifle. We sit indian-style and wait. He was whispering to me that the wind was good and that she would probably come out and I would have a shot. But she quartered away and so we crept a little closer and set up again.

It seemed like an eternity, but we waited and watched her every move. Me through the scope and he with binoculars. My husband is about 100 yards behind us, but I'm completely unaware of him. Only the hog.

The hog is moving her head and Joaquim and I are whispering shoulder to shoulder about her. Now she's coming out of the brush, but still quartering away. Joaquim is encouraging me that I have a shot, but to wait until I'm ready. I take a deep breath and get ready. Of course, then my contact lens gets a little foggy and I have to refocus. Again, I take a deep breath and exhale slowly (just like I'd been taught to do). I steady the rifle and the blood in my ears starts pounding and all I can think is that I can make this shot. I'm telling myself that I may be a 5 foot tall woman sitting in the dirt in full camo, but I'm just a good a shot as anyone.

I slowly squeeze the trigger and I know that I got her. I look up from the scope and all I see is the hog in the air and then her body hit the dirt. My shot was from about 115 yards. She was about 150 pounds. And in a very non-hunting manner I jump up and hug the guide and thank him for my hog. I look behind me and my husband is beaming and we start high-fiving each other as he tells that he knew I could do it.

I received that biggest compliment from the guide when he told David that I was "so calm" and that "she wasn't afraid." "She's a killer, just like my wife."

I have to say that it was the single most exhilarating experience of my life. More people should do it! We do a lot of duck and pheasant hunting, but I've never been afraid while hunting. The element of fear of hunting something that could kill me made the experience amazing.

As a result, now I think I'm completely addicted to big game hunting and we're talking about going to Argentina to hunt with the guide we hunted with here.

So that's my story. I hope you enjoyed it. We'll post better pics soon.
-Jolain

Way to go Notorious Jo

You have any sisters? Thanks for inviting me to the party, I had a great time. Nick and I almost came up and crawled in your apartment, the Valet closed at 12 and locked our keys in this little room.....luckily, we were able to squeeze Nick through the key hole

Default A pig of the party

Party?

Was there a party? Narrr, I must have missed it all. Where was the Party? ... Stayin' alive stayin' alive.

From this thread I can see that Cap'n Jo (Jolaine) or the Mrs. Tuna Devil can bring home the bacon and quite possibly cook it too. That is too cool. Who was askin' about any available sisters?

Thank God TD can fish and wing ducks, probably a good snipe & gator hunter as well. If y'as' can't bring home the bacon you may as well bake the bread and brew the beer and distill the mash. Yarrr.
