Texas Fishing Report - Lower Laguna Madre

Friday was a great day to be out, east wind blowing early then became east southeast later in the afternoon. Cloudy in the morning and then parting clouds later in the day. Tide is beginning to rise a bit and water looks in great shape. Today was easy limits of trout and then some. They ranged from 16 – 22 inches and were thick along grass lines. You could stand in place and catch multiple trout out of the same hole and move a few yards and do the same thing. The only place they seem to be concentrated was in waist deep water, where a grass line met a mud shell bottom. We keyed in on the bait lines and that’s where the fish were. I did lose a trout in the 27 to 28 inch class by being to careful with her and not doing what I regularly do to bring in a fish. She was within two arms reach when she got off. Redfish were up shallow and also found in good concentrations, but most were on the smaller end. The better bite was late morning through late afternoon. We left at 3:00 p.m. and they were still biting.
