I had the wonderful opportunity to fish different waters on Saturday with a couple of good friends. Joe Gonzales, and Ram Rodriguez who captained the boat into waters I had never experienced before. We ran to Nine Mile Hole early in the morning and decide to work the ditch because of the amount of bait working the edge. It didn’t take long to get bites from mouth thrashing trout. We hit an area where the action was fast and furious on trout and reds. Working the edge with plastic baits did the trick; the fish were concentrated in about four to five feet of water. After an hour of this action we decide to try our luck in trout famed Baffin. We fished several big trout areas and to our surprise the bite was non existent. I did pull out a 16 inch trout, but that was all we had to show for the second part of the day. I would have to say despite the tough bite it’s always fun to experience new waters with some good friends. Now, is the time to get out there and learn some new stuff that can be beneficial in the coming months. I do want to point out something that I have noticed as of here lately. As soon as we get a cold snap the fishing turns on for a few days, but as it starts to warm up the fishing slows down considerably. At least that is what I am experiencing the last few weeks. Right now our better catches have come when the weather turns colder and the water temperature drops to lower to mid sixties range. To bad we can’t order our weather, but there will be some good cold days arriving thru Jan and Feb. It’s during the cooler weather mixed with low winter tides that the fish become more predictable to find. When’s the next cold front coming? Let’s get ready!
