Thomas and his 12 year old son Levi met me at the dock bright and early. As we headed out in the dark our thinking was its going to get better, fish have to eat sooner or later. As we got off on our first wade the morning looked promising. We had some blow-ups on topwaters and you could hear the bait being harassed by their predators. I soon hooked on to a 20 inch snook and soon after a keeper red. Then Levi demonstrated his fine angler skills by landing a 27 plus inch redfish on a popper. After a few more strikes here and there, a thunderstorm approached us faster than we calculated. We desperately tried to out run it but no way could we escape being drenched by the heavy downpour. It stopped our fishing for at least two hours and when we returned the bait and game fish seemed to have hunkered down on the bottom and flatly refused to eat everything we threw at them. We managed to hook a couple of small fish but for the most part the bite shut down after the heavy thunderstorm. My goal was to put Levi on a snook and it didn’t happen, as a guide you tend to feel bad because it just didn’t happen. But, I hope that what I showed Thomas and Levi can help them hook on to a trophy snook in the future. Levi, don’t give up buddy you’ve got a lifetime of experiences with those snook down south. Here is Levi and his proud catch.
Tight lines,
