I see no one has posted a Gulf Coast & Panhandle fishing report recently so I'll say a few words...
The Cobia, Kings, and Spanish are biting!! Spanish are hitting Gotchas & Bubble-Straw rigs. Yesterday at Okaloosa Pier they were thick! They are also showing up around Shalimar Bridge. More and more Cobia are being caught along the beaches & piers. Most people are casting jigs to them, but live eels are working as well. The Kings are also moving in nearshore. 10-12 -pounders have been caught a mile or so off the beach with skirted baits. A guy on Okaloosa Pier caught the pier's first King this morning. Water temps nearshore are averaging 68 to 71, depending on where you go. |

It's still a bit early for the offshore fishing to really heat up off Destin. The bluefins usually show up around Memorial Day, just in time to spool the few people who hook up on them, and to piss off the few who land them, as they usually aren't in season for a few more days. I'm good friends with a guy who landed one two years ago which was between 900 and 1000# by length and girth formula. It was 2 days before the season opened, and the fish was dead at boatside. USCG and FWS said that if the fish was brought in that they would "be made an example of." I've seen the photos. It was no bull :/

I think a saw some pics of that bluefin if its the same one your talking about, think it was in the mid to hight 800's, said they caught it 40 miles south of the spur. I have never heard much about the bluefin action out of destin, guess not to many people go for them. Where about are they running, spur, nipple?
