Exclamation Stolen Fishing Gear

One of my fellow S.O.B. club members had a break-in over the weekend. About $10k worth of tackle and gear was stolen from his garage.

If anyone comes across any of this, or hears about someone trying to unload it, please p.m.
me or call me at 954.647.8809

below is transcription of the message I received:

Last night (Fri/Sat, May 4/5,) my garage was broken into and about $10,000 in rods and reels were stolen. Included were six custom 80 lb swordfish rods (green with gold wrapping) with Tiagra 50 wide 2 speed reels loaded with yellow hi viz line. Also 3 TLD 20 or 25 reels and rods, 6 Shimano plug reels and plug rods and 3 kite rods with Penn Int reels.

DAM IT !! I hate a thief. Sorry for your bud. This makes you step back and think about how lucky we are to not be going through this crap ourselves.

Some thoughts pass through my mind:

1-Get some good digital photos of all your fishing gear, that way the insurance company knows what you had and can't argue with you. Don't forget the tackle box and lure bags, that stuff gets expensive to replace.

2-Call your insurance agent a nd find out what your coverage is for your stuff, you may find out you are limited to $ 5000 like I was. Yes, I got hit 5 years ago, lost about $ 8000 worth of stuff, and was lucky to get the $ 5000 relief.

3-In the future, I will have custom rods built with my boat name layed in the glass, in 3 places on the rod so I can identify my stuff easily if it gets pinched.

4-Get a dremel tool and carve your name on your reels. Don't forget to carve your name on the reel mount, it is a place that they will never see unless they take the reel off the rod. Also, carve your name on the reel seat on the rod. When the reel is on the rod, you won't see the markings, and the thief may not be smart enough to check it.

5-Put your "prize" stuff IN the house, the thief will think twice before going into your house, but will not hesitate to grab and dash out of your garage.

6-Keep your "gold" out of site in the garage. If a car driving down the street can look into your garage and see your internationals and Tiagras, that is advertising.

7-Trust no one. The most likely thief you will find is the lawn maintenance person, paperboy, pizza delivery guy, babysitters boyfriend, your childs school friends. People that come to your house for other reasons, and find a "gold mine" in your garage. They steal the stuff for themselves, or give the inside info to another thief that they know.

You forget how much that shtuff cost until you have to buy it.....again.
Think smart, or pay twice.

I have always thought if you steal a mans trade tools the penalty should be doubled, if you steal a mans fishing gear double again, if you try to sell cialis on a fishing board castrastion.

Sorry to hear about your friends loss. It is unfortuante that we all live in a society where we have to guard or hide our belongings. Any theft is untolerable, but messing with a another mans boat or fishing equipment is like messing with another mans family. I hope that all his equipment is recovered.
