Default Okuma Reels...Where Are They Made?

:?: It's looking like these are the only lever-drag large capacity reels that I can afford in a suit of 3 or 4 so I'm curious where they are made. I'm hoping it's not China because it might be against my red-neck religion to permit them aboard...

Thanks to anyone in advance for the info.

Do yourself a favor and start saving up and buying the more expensive tackle. Ask around. Anyone who fishes alot and has blundered into Okuma land has come back dissapointed. We spend lots of time and money just trying to get a bite, make sure the tackle you got in your hands is up to the job. Keep an eye out for used gear, most of the big name stuff can be re-built and refurbished over and over again.
Good luck,

Try the Shimano TLD series, a little less then the gold stuff and it works 90% of the fish you will catch. Skill plays a big part with these fish.

Over the past month or two, I've been putting my gear together to get myself a chip at the swordfishing table. I was looking to get started with the Okuma's as well and actually went down to River Marine with $1,500 in my pocket to buy a 3 outfit minimum. I took one look at the graphite model and said, no way... bad idea.
I asked around and ended up buying used Penn 50tw's instead for about the same price I was going to spend on gear I wasn't going to be happy with. The okuma TG models look much nicer but even those have a bad rap for falling apart while fighting a fish.
Good luck with your decision.

 Hello Crew,

I had a long talk with Tom Greene from Custom Rod & Reel in Lighthouse Pt. {954-781-5600} (thanks for the introduction from Dakotah Gould) and he told me the "skinny". If you have never spoken to this guy you've missed a chance at visiting a fishing Oracle! He has done it all!!

I'll just leave it that I won't be going Okuma from what I've read here and heard as feedback.

Bummer...up goes the "Admission Fee" to the offshore night-time adventures, but at least my gear won't blow apart when I really need it.

Steve

 No Dakotah, you're not known as "skinny". That's just an expression that means the "low-down" or the "real story".

I just meant ot say that in talking to Tom Greene I got the real story.

He had very nice things to say about you. I commented to him how impressed I was that such a young guy of your age was such a stud in a very serious area of sportfishing.

PS: Stop looking at those girlie pictures in the "Alert!!" post in the other forum.! Ha, Ha...
