Gents: (Headline above should read "Thru" not "Thur." Was a typo. Front, of course, rolled thru Sat. eve. Edit feature on Forum does not let you fix headlines.)
Had a great couple days of fishing in and around Bimini before the front rolled thru Saturday night. We were unable to target wahoo because the high tides were early in the morning. I missed the high tide Fri. because we did not arrive until 11:00 a.m. and we slept in a little Sat. and had to clean some fish again missing the prime wahoo bite. Instead we focused on several bank wrecks. Some of you with a keen eye may recognize some spots. They were littered with permit and cobia. We caught more than 20 permit releasing most. We took a bunch of crabs. The ballyhoo were also very thick. We also netted a mess of pilchard in the S. Bimini canal we stayed at and live chummed. We did make a couple drifts each day on the edge deep jigging and live baiting near the Riding Rocks. Fishing the edge was not that good. Lots of sharks and cudas. We did catch some scamps, strawberries and other cooler fillers. As usual, we ate very well. We hooked up with the lobster man at Govt. Dock. ![]() Can't wait to go back and get some wahoo. I know some boats that fished the falling tide in the morning did very well. I am attaching just a few photos. Tight lines. ![]() Juan Last edited by Captain Juan; 10-19-2009 at 02:46 PM.. |

Sand key channel markers? QQ
Nope. However, that gives me an idea. I have fished off the Sandy Key (Ocean Cay) markers for tails but not for cobes. I am sure they are there. The structure you see in some of my pix is a well known but often overlooked spot on every chart. I also fish a similar spot/marker for the same species near the Pocket. Other spots in pix above are also pretty popular airplane wrecks within sight of Bimini or Cat. That's all I gots to say. I also have spots way south on the bank I never made it too. Now I gotta get back and catch some wahoo on the right tide. never got a chance. Juani |

Juan,
Anyone familiar with the bank should recognize the scenery. I have seen ther permit there but we never brough crabs to bother with them. It's the time of the year for the cobia and there are most often nice mangroves there as well. The markers on the way to Chub are also good but a much longer ride across the bank. Glad you had such a productive trip. The wahoo are still a day to day thing as they are not coming through really strong yet so it's good one day and the next not so good. I don't understand just the falling tide thing as I have probably caught just as many fish on each tide but have to say if you have a hard outgoing tide at sunrise, and get those lines in while it is still dark, you have your best shot at a great morning. I know many of you appreciate these kinds of photos (food shots). I do. A little catch and release into the deep fryer courtesy of this trip a couple weeks back. Some cobia, permit and scamp. You can also catch a glimpse of my finished kitchen which took more than a year to complete. AAAArrrrg.
