Default Butterfly Jigs

What do you think of them. Do you think they worth the $15?

I have several butterfly jigs. I have caught fish on them but blind jigging is not as productive as using them over proven structure with chum.

Keep in mind that most fishing and lure systems are not as productive as the manufacturers hipe.... alot of lures attract fisherman more than fish!!!

You can find them for much cheaper. Go to shulure.com. They are just as good and way cheaper. Also Boater's World sells Williamson jigs which are much cheaper than Shimano.

Wink Catch a fisherman

They catch when the fish are stacked up and feeding....but what doesn't. Overhyped IMO. but they got me to buy in as well

I have a few but I have had limited success with tuna (only one) and I have also used them for offshore wreck fishing (in Jersey) and striped bass fishing.

What made me a believer was last year, when a charter came on with nothing but skinny rods and high speed/high torque reels and said we just want to jig, no bait rods, except for 1 sword rod. So when we were out there they got out their butterfly jigs and we got out our 12 oz. hammered diamond jigs and we all started jigging. We were not getting anything and these guys were crushing the tuna. They were serious jiggers who knew how to work these jigs. When it was all said and done they out fished us 8 to 1 that night. After that I ran out and bought a few of the butterfly jigs. I had a butterfly rod made for inshore, but I have been trying to use my meat stick and a 16VSX with very limited success offshore. You have to hand it to Shimano’s marketing team.

Default Those jigs only work for some people

Those butterfly jigs only work for some people:

------------------------------------------ Marauder1 w/ a grouper ------------------------------------------------

My first experience with a butterfly jig got a 50 lb. bull dolphin in the boat.

The second time I used a butterfly jig, it was just dropped off over the edge of the boat before dark while swordfishing: an 8 lb. dolphin grabbed it. That was just blind luck. But you ain't fishing until you have your hooks in the water.

The third time using one: a Blackfin Tuna.

So far so good, and I am a believer. Hmmm, I wonder if they work for Swordfish?

I guess Marauder1 may be a believer too: at least the grouper likes them.
