Well, the gallery system I use, I would have to write a database to take username and passwords to post photos....this would be a pain...

BUt I can disable commenting all together. I must admit that it is annoying for me to constantly moderate the gallery..

I don't think it is out of control though and it seems to be the same people all the time or atleast the same IP address...

Thanks for the input.

Mike

Default Commenting on the Gallery Photos

Mike:

In spite of some of the shenanigans going on with the gallery comments, I think that the comments are an excellent thing.

As a matter of fact, I think it is actually under utilized.

It would be a shame to lose this feature because of a few cheap shots.

Sometimes people wish to remain low key: but providing a boat name or angler name can bring life to a photo.

Other pertinent details like the date and proximate location of the fish landing, sighting would really value-add to the gallery.

If some people were willing to go the extra mile: describing the time of bite, bait used and depth of bight would really kick-it up a notch. Not that this is a formal report.

But since the 2005 swordfish gallery is an annual compilation of pictures you could follow it in sequence and work your way through the year and you could possibly observe anything special or different as the year slides along or even refer back to year ago, or more - situations to refresh on preferred depths, etc.

By casual observation, it just seems like getting bites at 200 FSW at this time of year seems typical; although, I still vary my spread. But the 200 ft. gets hit over and over again. Last week with the moon bright in the sky: it was the 200 and 300 ft. lines that got the attention.

The posted photos with such details could serve as an excellent keep-sake. So post it and note it if you please.

Just as an FYI - I try to also post an NMFS report number on the photo when available. When you post pictures and comments on a public forum you are waiving your right to remain silent. So the things you show and say should probably all be on the ""up and up". Just imagine there being 600 swordfish photos of keepers on this forum and there being only 500 NMFS reports. MMmmh, So if you post photos of retained fish be sure you have an official NMFS report number. Because even if the poster comments nothing, some silly googan can chime in and say whatever and further diminish your choice of relative silence.

Mike, there have been times I have wanted to edit my own comments on the gallery. Is that feasible to facilitate? RT
