Tuna Fishing out of Boynton

I am heading down there next weekend and a bit next week. Can anyone give me any reports or tips on how to get some fish offshore? My buddy has a 20' Key West and we are going to try our luck. From what I can tell it has been windy down there but Dorados are in as well as wahoo. I would love to try to get a bonito on a fly. Any advice on techniques to use right now? I can barely trow a cast net and was going to try to get some bait off the inlet or on some patch reefs. I am a novice at best and would appreciate any help.

get your self some pilchards at boca inlet and the slow troll the edge or setup a drift.. The fish have been very consistent on live bait... Once you have dolphin around the boat you can pitch to them on fly...

if you dont know how to load up on bait to well .. just purchase a couple of dozen and go fish..

Thanks for the info. Are there any pilchards in the Boyton Inlet? Who sells the bait and where? Stores or guys on boat? Sorry for all the Chuckie questions!

For Bonito , just anchor up on the reefs ... from 60 to 120 ft ... chum like crazy ... should have bonito`s and kings .. behind the boat in no time ... !

Thank you. What is the best chum to use for Bonitos? My buddy was saying something about dried chum or something. I guess that is for catching bait.

The weather has been rough. Hopefully by this weekend it will die down to at least 2-4'. If your heading out of Boynton for the first time you my want to think about going up to Lake Worth Inlet if there is any weather. Boynton Inlet can get nasty with any seas. Really should have local knowledge for that inlet with rough seas. If flat then game on!

Besides that fishing is really good right know: kings, dolphin, bonita, sails, snappers are good on the reefs, and even some blackfins in this area. Good luck!

It looks like Sat. -Mon. things will ease up a bit. I have been out Boyton a lot and know how sketchy it is. I will check it from the road before. I also check the web cam a lot:

Boynton Inlet

If things get sloppy we will follow one of the drift boats in which works. I am getting my own boat that is 28' in a few months so that will help with that nasty inlet. I guess it is the most dangerous or one of on the eastern sea board. They have always talked of re doing it but I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Follow all the above advice and you should do well.If it is not to rough you can get bait around Boynton inlet. There are a few guys that sell bait around Boynton as well.Call Xtream rods and they can hook you up with all the chum, bait and info you need. 561-296-7673

ps this weekend is the big KDW tourney with 300 boats so be careful.
