Default Trip Sarasota - Keys - Lucaya on Bay Boat

I am picking up my new Yellowfin 24 Bay next week and want to run it down the West coast, around the Keys (do dome fishing) then up the East coast and across to my home in Lucaya.

Any suggestions on where I can cross the Keys? Where are the hot fishing spots?

Thanks
John

With that boat you could cut across fl bay North of key largo if you wanted. But I would go south and fish my way back up.

Does anyone know the fishing regs? The boat will be registered in the Bahamas after I arrive (and pay the hefty duties). Do I need to get a fishing permit for the boat? for each person on the boat??

John,

You can cut through at Bud & Marys using the Yacht Channel if you are in a hurry. Just be carefull as it gets pretty shallow quick if you run outside of the channel.

If you arent familure with this, run on down to Marthone and go under the 7 mile bridge. Just make sure you have the numbers to get around Sawer Bank, need to make several 90% turns to get to the channel going under the bridge.

If you have the time and can afford the gas, go to Key West and chile our at night and fish the day. Its a little spotty now but its getting better, dolphin that is.

The ship canal is your best bet. If you then go n. in the intercoastal to snake creek, Smuglers at the bridge, has the best prices for gas and diesel.. There is a motel there where you can spend the night. When you cross the stream, you can go to south riding rock where you can get on the bank, then to chub or to home, if you hold enough fuel. hope this helps. AuSUN

Ausum,

Thanks, I think I will travel up the east coast until WPB then cross, it is the shortest distance to West End, GB.

Unless it is flat calm, then I will make a straight run, past Bimini to Lucaya.

Can't wait to start the trip, just hope all this wind is gone for a week.
