Talking the easy way...

You could rub a can of ancovies all over your hands, drink a six-pack, then stand in a sauna for an hour tearing up $100 bills....pretty much gets you to the same place

I'm with you Donk. The typical fisherman can calculte the cost of his catch after purchasing the required equipment: boat/insurance/fuel/maintenance/dockage/bait/beer/ice/tackle
Average net cost of fileted fish is $100-200/lb when you can go to Publix and buy it for $10/lb. With the exception of the slob Swordfish catch.

The simplified math approach makes it a no brainer as to which is the "smarter" way to acquire your fish. But, as the credit card commercial says, the experience is "Priceless".

Life is a journey, live as hard and fast as you can. Enjoy the experience while you can, and leave no regrets.

I've often told my clients on charters, "If you're just here for the meat, save yourself a load of money and go across the street to Sextons (fish market)."

Big tuna kills and 2 day bottom rapings are about the only way you come close to breaking even or going ahead.
