Capt. Randy and I headed out of Ft. Laud. on Teaser for a little king chasing. Brought 24 baits as usual, (we dont hardly ever need that many, often thowing at least a few overboard on the way in). Out of bait by 11am! All baits lost on hits, kings and maybe a wahoo or 2. We dont kill small fish, so many snakes were released boatside to fight another day. Had at least 4 or 5 nice way-over keeper sized fish pull hooks near the boat. Had one monster, possible 35-40lb fish attack a bait and then charge the boat, pulling the hooks jumping right next to the boat. Looked like either a serious smoker or wahoo, probably wahoo as I havent seen a king over 20 in a few years here. Managed to get one nice one on the boat before the bite switched off at 10.30am. Caught em from 90ft. all the way out to 170 ft.
Ran back to 15st. marina, got 24 more 'hoos and headed offshore. Found a board floating 8 miles out and it was covered by small schoolie dolphin. Had a blast playing with them. Caught and released about 20 of them before getting tired of the little rascals. Saw a few good sized fish in the school but couldnt get the baits to them cause the little ones are so quick. Kept 3 legal fish for supper and headed back inshore with a dozen baits left to go. (also caught 2 small sharks swimming with the schoolies, rare sight).
Set up around the stinkhole in hollywood and the king bite was on again. Not as strong as the morning, but still snapping pretty good. Got one more nice fish in the afternoon, missed several more nice fish and released a few more snakes.
Its been a long time since we've seen this kind of day here. Out of 48 baits we had over 50 hits, (we were chunking the baits when we were fishing the schoolies). Awsome day.
