Default February issue Marlin magazine

Anybody read the article about South Florida Swordfishing in the latest Marlin rag? The author did a decent job of explaining the history of recreational Swordfishing and the recent comeback of the stock. There seems to be a certain amount of misrepresentation in a statement saying that the fishery is wide open ;giving the reader the impression that anything goes as long as fish are caught, citing the use of large treble hooks in front of the bait, etc. I myself have concluded that the members of this forum are very interested in conserving and augmenting the Swordfish supply;not only in practice, but also in your willingness to work with state and federal agencies to that purpose and your willingness to share your knowledge reminds me of Florida fishermen I grew up with. Recreational fishing is an excellent definition of what you participate in. Taking this line of reasoning, I am not certain that Swordfish should even be classified as billfish because of their habits and value as excellent tablefare. Everything I have learned about these fish tells me they are in a class by themselves.

Default Somewhere in the middle

Those who post on this forum run the gamut from sportsmen to carrying bang sticks. You want to read some wide openness? Log on to inthebite.com and be prepared for some really funny and outrageous discussions.Ahh Fishermen! Somewhere between 100% release and total destruction of anything that swims in the sea. The men and women on this forum are much better at reaching a consensus. Remember the poor;that keeps the Swordfish steaks from getting freezer burn.
