yesterday we left Tavernier to go fish Flamingo and East Cape for the last day i was in the keys. we ran to east cape wich takes a good hour with no gps. we saw alot of baby tarpon none would eat. we saw some redfish and snook and no luck with them. around 4:00 we decide to turn around and go home knowing that we were light on fuel. well we miscalculated our fuel range and we made it to the beginning of twisty mile (a chanal between 2 huge flats that is 20 ft wide and a mile long) which is around 12 miles from home when we ran out of fuel. we made a call to a friend to bring us fuel and they did but when they made it to the other side of twisty mile(a mile from me) they ran out of oil. while they idled towards us we wasted the last bait on sharks and a lady fish which became chum/bait, by the time they reached us i managed to get a few sharks circling the boat. we gave them oil and ran home in the dark which is kinda scary with no gps and no que beam.
After we got home my friend that brought us fuel told us about his day. he went out to troll some, they had the lines in for 5 minutes and he managed to break the steering cable in the tower. after that he managed to snap the shift cable. so they came home. they were comeing in tavernier creek at low tide in the middle of the chanal and hit bottom. mangled the prop and bent the shaft. i drove home last night and made it home at 4:00am. i know im not the only one who had bad luck cause i read about that sea craft that capsized on the 50. Congrats to 2nd chance on the slob they deserve it. the trip was good in the end. the first 2 days the ocean was calm and we caught alot of snapper and small grouper on my friends 16ft Dolphin Renegade. we tried to get some sails on it but only some kingfish. |

OK on friends boat on swordtrip Sunday night first bait in the water gets hit. I clear the second rod and pull the hydro glow out of the water and put it on the deck,I start to stand up and powww! I get a 3lb shot put to the head. I was so stupid to leave lead from the rod swinging free. I realy know better! As the blood starts to flow from my head I start to feel if any brains are showing. Then we pull the hook on the fish! I feel ok and we keep fishing 5 more hours without another bite and everyone around us is hooking up  To top it off motor gives us a little problem on the way in. Thankfully it works long enough to get us home. Then on Mon my friends go out sailfishing and while putting the boat in the water my friend gets the winch handle to the chin. Nice cut and he lost a chunk of tougne  that had to hurt. Hopefully rest of year goes better
