Default Tiagra 50wlrs vs Avet Pro EX 50W...

I'm having trouble deciding between these two reels... The track record sounds near perfect for both reels on the long range boats... Shimano of course has a much better track record overall, but I do like the overhead of the EX 50's drag (57lbs)... Plus the EX is significantly lighter (67oz vs 86oz) and cheaper... Have you guys had any bad experiences with the Avet pro EX 50W?...

Well... I'll prove to everyone that I don't work for Avet here and now... The T-RX 50's failed miserably on the most recent Long range trips... I heard that there were like 3 brand new T-RX's that froze up and one even blew up!!!

Something VERY fishy has gone on with the T-RX 30's release... As I said in earlier posts, I got the VERY first T-RX 30W... Harry from AVET and Eddy over at Cabbage Key told me that the rest would be released a couple days later---and that was over 2 weeks ago!!! The T-RX 30 is still not available!!! What am I supposed to think?... It sure sounds like there were some last minute changes that my T-RX 30 missed... Eddy told me to let him know how I liked the T-RX 30, and I e-mailed him my good review---but I never heard back from him!!!... I even sent him an extra e-mail to see if he got the review, and no response!!!

I like to talk alot about AVET because I appreciate the fact that they are the only American reel company that is producing technologically innovative reels... and the reels just look awesome!.. I will, however, not bite my tongue if I have to speak negatively about AVET, as there are plenty of bad things to say...

Default Reelly reelly sure you don't work for AVET?

:?: Now it sounds like you are an engineer at AVET that speaks his mind "as it is" and have a-hold of the first proto-types in your hands.....

Just Kidding with you... Keep the good reviews coming no matter which manufacturer it is.

BTW - Have you seen the new Shimano Tiagra 50 wide Models (new form handle and ratcheted lever drag). I got to fish with one the other day. I just love the clicking drag settings and that "new style" handle should sell as an after-market handle for all of the other 50 class reels. The handle is phenomenal! (I just wonder if AVET had anything to do with inspiring such an innovation in another BRAND ). I have Penn 50s myself and I still prefer the location of the clicker lever over Tiagra and especially over Avet because of the shape of the lever.

P.S. - I recently tested out an aftermarket handle from Charkbait for the Penn 50 W. It is nicer. But that new Tiagra handle is "First Class" hands down.

But I would certainly commend AVET for introducinng the T-RX 50. With a fast moving market these days, you may have to do a little bit of risktaking to get the product out quickly. If it were up to the engineers at AVET to give their 100% blessing it could take an additional year before anglers get a hold of them to field/stream trial. Sometimes you get lucky with an innovative winner and sometimes they may flop. But Avet has a large enough product line such that getting a little egg on your face should not be such bad news. I'm sure they will remedy the situation or will discontinue it before long.

I'm still scratching my head over that 30 class reel with quad drag. So much drag potential on an ever decreasing spool diameter, not to mention a properly matched rod to go with it. What the hell, push the envelope, and I am sure we will see something good come out of it in the long run.

Please keep us advised on your experience with this "Mighty Mouse"
