We fished the south grounds and got nothing, the bite seemed to be really good and steady up on the north grounds all night.
One boat almost sank, or did sink while fishing the tourney. I am not sure who it was and what the final outcome was. |

Eric it was great to meet you and have you fish in our 3 ring circus. thanks for the wahoo. "unique" is very polite of you. interesting trip with a new boat that was missing some back-ordered scups, a broken water tight hatch, and a live well that was sucking in weed and shutting off. We took in about a ton and half of water in the fish boxes and it melted most of
the 500+ lbs of ice we had. The boat could not get up on the plane and it looked bleak for a few minutes. A lot of hard work kept the bait alive and we didn't sink. finding nemo did a super job of keeping it together with all of the boat problems and with his gnarly crew. Steve, half spooled almost sank his boat, but we will let him tell that story. We fished the south grounds with Troy leading the sword attack. fishing was slow for us early and we had one runner eaten off of our zombie at 260'. by 1 in the morning, our boat was not safe for the insecure as all the "experts" were second guessing using the boat, our drift, rigs, etc etc. but we stayed the course and the action heated up before we did any further. first fish on the tip rod at 125' gets off in less than a minute. a few minutes later, thank god, we get another one on the tip rod but we can tell that this fish either doesn't know its hooked or this was not going to win the tournament. we release a 35" pup a few minutes later and get the tip rods going again. shortly, the same tip rod sings real good and we know we have a nice fish. troy calls the length and weight to within 4 lbs based on fighting the fish for a few minutes. Eric then does a great job of getting the fish to the boat for tony and troy to bring it on home. it was 111.6 lbs on the digital scale and we were in 6th place when we left the weigh in. it seemed like there was an early dark and then a 2-3 pm bite. congratulations to all the winners and a big thanks to the sword lords for a great time. cheers, arthur PS Capt Ken, north of the port; inside of the 51; tip rods at around 100'; red, twin b/g and one yellow glowstick; squid; hydroglow; 2:30 bite. |
