Dozens of Floridians with an interest in management, conservation and regulation of gopher tortoises gathered in Lecanto Sept. 30 to look for a better way to protect the species. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) consultant Dr. Perran Ross organized the meeting to develop an effective communications line between the agency and those with a stake in gopher tortoises.
