Hey guys/girls,
My name is Randy I am a tugboat capt. operating in the st johns river jacksonville, fl. Now for some odd reason i have a dream of starting a charter boat business, and i have never even been deepsea fishing nor have i done muc hinland fishing. Maybe i just love the water. IS it unrealistic to have this dream? I dont know anything at all about rigging for fishing or how to even reel them suckers up. How do i go about this? Any ideas and thoughts would be great!

Here's an article writting by sfc.
http://www.swordfishingcentral.com/fishing-business.php bland, but I think you should remember it is defientely a customer service industry and you should be a people person. No one wants to be on the boat with a grumpy capt. |

Well years of fishing experience i dont have unfortanatly. I wouldnt actually be able to run the boat myself anyways working 6 days on 3 days off on a tug here in jax. Would it be worth just investing into a boat equipment etc.. FInding a capt that knows the business to run the boat itsel, and learning under him on days off to eventually have more than 1 boat in the fleet?
I dont wanna work for someone else my whole life. I would rather have my own business. I have plenty of time though no hurry. -Randy

Go for it. THere is nothing like running your own business and workign your own hours.. Most people are too scared to leave their day jobs and go after the opportunity. Some just can't afford to.
Whatever it is, get it going as a side business / hobby and once you build up enough clients, tell your boss see ya later. Good Luck |

You may consider coming out to San Diego. Our sport fishing fleet is second to none. After a season or two as second ticket on a boat you would then have the knowlege and insight as to whether the business is for you. I have been running yachts for 8 years and find that I get my fishing time in with out the headaches or bills. But I still keep my eyes open for the right boat. Tight Lines
