Default Cubera Snapper Fishing Buddy

We are looking for a someone to come with us on a cubera snapper trip. We have tried a few times but with no success. So if someone wants to go on a cubera trip and has experiance we would appericate it. We have the boat * 2007 27 blackfin with twin 225 etecs* and the gear 2 x Penn 80V on bent butts. We have alot about swording day and night, but cuberas seem to be another game. Anyone who wants to head out for cuberas or any other type of fishing (sword, dolphin, kings). We welcome new friends.

My daughter, Amy (mini Beast) and Devon, my mate (future son-in-law) went out in their 19' skiff 2 weeks ago and she got a 35#er on a BIG blue crab. They had 5 bites in total for 2 hours of fishing. Yellowtail baits were working too!

We caught a bunch in Panama...up to 60#. They will eat a whole small Bonita (5#) or a half of a 10#er. Not sure what the best bait is here in Florida, my guess is the live lobster suggestion. Whatever you use, it must be BIG.
We also had to freeline the bait to the bottom. If you need some weight for the current, give yourself a good 10' of leader after the weight for a free swimming action.
Good luck

We were live baiting 10 pound skip jacks in Mexico for large yellowfins and the cuberas came up off the sea mounts and inhaled them. They were big ones ranging from 40 to 80 lbs.

Default Cuberas are alot like oversized mangrove snappers...

on steriods and red bull ...a live lobster or a live bullet bonita are great baits. look hard at your charts where the third reef has the most structure and just drift down it or anchor up with as light as lead as you can to stay near the bottom, wrecks work great also. use a circle hook and plastic coated wire black 7x7 cable type stuff at least 100lbs. *works great for grouper and you will get cuda's also... a bunch of cudas. if you start fishing for them get some type of long handled arc dehooker also don't kill a big fish for no reason. If you eat one and the body systems start to shut down it's your own fault... you can buy talapia at publix! they bite fast and hard so have good simple tackle the 80's will work fine. fishing lobsters I have even rigged two circles in a row (stinger ) I have even caught two in the winter in the 65' grouper trolling fowey south run fishing/ trolling for groupers. I have also had a guy catch one on 20lb straight to the hook took him a while but he has it I believe in his office still it was a JT Resse actual mount (probally looks more scary than it did back then..) good luck! *Now you know you may never even get lucky enough to catch one...
