Default Fish ID help?

Can Anyone help me with what this fish is? Caught it surf fishing by a jetty near the Tybee Island GA Lighthouse. Was using shrimp for bait. Outgoing tide maybe two hours before low tide. Fish was about 8 inches long. Let it go and watched it swim off after photo.

During the beach trip action was a bit slow with me catching two whitting, a yellowtail (silver perch), and this fish which is a grunt or snapper of sorts.

Of course since I returned recently from Iraq the water and "scenery" on the beach was great!! God Bless America and American woman!

I am also attaching (if i can work the attachment right) a shark i caught a few days before the beach trip from my boat.

might be a pigfish, but we caught something that looked just like that and called it a margate, which is a grunt

My best guess is a pigfish (currents are my thing, not fish IDing),
a margate would be a more uniform off white color. For identifying
fish it helps to show all of the fins. cheers, arthur

Butch is 100% correct - a pigfish for certain. I caught at least 100 for grouper bait last weekend fishing out of Fort Pierce. I've been using them for over 35 years - small ones caught in the river for trout and redfish and bigger ones on the shallow reefs for grouper. Yes, great bait for the bottom as they are very hearty, live forever in the well, make a grunting sound when used for bait, and are loved as food by all large bottom dwellers. On Saturday I had two mangroves over 12 pounds each and both ate - yes a live pigfish on grouper tackle in 90 feet of water.
