Default Best Music Lyrics

Instead of arguing, I mean discussing, politics, let's try a new thread.
What are you favorite lines from a rock n roll song?? Here are
three for starters.

(1) From Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues:
You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows
---------
If you didn't live it or remember it because you lived it too much,
read a history of the 60s to fully appreciate this statement

(2) From Warren Zevon's Lawyers, Guns, and Money

Well, I went home with the waitress
The way I always do
How was I to know
She was with the Russians, too

I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this
------
One of the best intros ever written for a rock song

(3) Robert Hunter's Scarlet Begonia is full of great lyrics

She had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes
And I knew without askin' she was into the blues.

Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

The sky was yellow and the sun was blue
Strangers stoppin' strangers just to shake their hand
-----
The lyrics, Jerry's guitar, the jam into Fire, need I say more.
cheers, arthur

You can't always get what you want
No you can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
You just might find
That you get what you need

It's from one of George Bush's speaches but I thought it was pretty good. Just kidding - vintage Rolling Stones.

You came up on me like a landslide
Once in awhile I get taken like that
And I like it
Ive got a thunderbird parked right outside
Give me a minute to finish this thing
And well light it.
In all this heat its a job keeping cool
Oh yeah
And I could fry an egg on you
You came up on me like a landslide
Once in awhile I get taken like that
And I like it

Youre gonna get whats coming
Youve been asking for it two days running
Youre gonna get whats coming
Youre gonna get whats coming to you

If she was an ace
And I was just a jack
And the cards were never seen
We could have been the king and the queen
But she took me back to her courtyard
Where magnolia perfume screams
Behind the gates and the granite
Of the planet of New Orleans

My my, hey hey
Rock and roll is here to stay
It's better to burn out
Than to fade away
My my, hey hey.

Out of the blue
and into the black
They give you this,
but you pay for that
And once you're gone,
you can never come back
When you're out of the blue
and into the black.

The king is gone
but he's not forgotten
This is the story
of a Johnny Rotten
It's better to burn out
than it is to rust
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten.

Default And the theme song for next weekend

last time I was sober, man I felt bad
worst hangover that I ever had
it took six hamburgers and scotch all night
nicotine for breakfast just to put me right

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreamin',
I can hear them say

Chorus
Carry on my wayward son,
For there'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Now don't you cry no more

When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be ...

His world had gone from sailing ships to raking mom's backyard
He never could adjust to land although he tried so hard
We both were growing older then and wiser with the years
That's when I came to understand the course his heart still steers

He died about a month ago while winter filled the air
And though I cried I was so proud to love a man so rare
He's somewhere on the ocean now that's where he oughta be
With one hand on the starboard rail he's wavin' back at me

Buffett Yeah this ones for me.

Don't run back inside, darlin' you know just what I'm here for,
So your scared and your thinkin' that maybe we ain't that young anymore,
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey, you're alright.....

Thats a great set of lyrics. I once used that line while trying to get a walking girl to take a ride with us. Strangely, she passed.

Default awesome lyrics + the "lost" verses

We skipped the light fandango, turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda' seasick, the crowd called out for more
the room was humming harder, as the ceiling flew away
when we called out for another drink, the waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later, as the miller told his tale
that face at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale

She said I'm home on shore leave, but at truth we were at sea
So I took her by the looking glass, and forced her to agree
I said you must be the mermaid, who took Neptune for a ride
But she smiled at me so sadly, my anger straightaway died

Refrain

She said there is no reason, and the truth is plain to see
so I wandered thru my playing cards, and would not let her be
one of sixteen vestial virgins, leaving for the coast
and though both my eyes were open, they just as well be closed.

Refrain

If music be the food of love, Then laughter is its queen
And likewise if behind is in front, Then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard, Seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly, And attacked the ocean bed

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
?this could be heaven or this could be hell?
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
?please bring me my wine?
He said, ?we haven?t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine?
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin? it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ?we are all just prisoners here, of our own device?
And in the master?s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can?t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
?relax,? said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Well I love her
And i love to fish
I spend all day out on this lake
And hell is all I catch
Today she met me at the door
Said I would have to choose
If I hit that fishin hole today
She'd be packin all her things
And she'd be gone by noon

Chorus:
Well I'm gonna miss her
When I get home
But right now I'm on this lakeshore
And I'm sittin in the sun
I'm sure it'll hit me
When I walk through that door tonight
That I'm gonna miss her
Oh, lookie there, I've got a bite

Bridge:
NOw there's a chance that if I hurry
I could beg her to stay
But that water's right
And the weather's perfect
No tellin' what I might catch today

Chorus

Default can't stop now....

My life is in jepordy
cold blooded murdered's what I'm gonna be
I aint been home since friday night
and now my wife is coming after me

Give me police protection;
gonna buy a gun so I can look after number one
get me a bodyguard or black-belt judo expert
with a machine gun

Gonna buy a tank and an aeroplane
When she catches up with me won't be no time to explain
She thinks I've been with another woman
and that's enough to send her half insane

Gonna buy a fast car, put on my lead boots
and take a long long drive
I may end up spending all my money
but I'll still be alive

All I did was have a bit too much to drink,
and I picked the wrong precinct
got picked up by the law
and now I ain't got time to think

~
and I'm oh so tired of runnin'
gonna lay down on the floor
I've gotta rest some time,
so I can get to run some more
