Default Feb 3, 2005 - 5 for 9 Swordfish Bites!

Nice sized Swordfish!

The Swordfishing continues to be red hot! When the weather is decent, we’ve been getting out Swordfishing and we have caught some real decent fish! Feb 1st we ventured out with Fred Donbrow. He wanted to fish all stand-up gear and we were ready!

At sunset we had two baits out and were working on the third bait, when we hook a double! The sun was still visible to the west! Were they Swords? The next thing I knew, one fish about 150 lbs was jumping within 200 feet of the boat. Unfortunately, we pulled the hook on both fish!

We put the baits back out and the action continued! We released a 50 lb fish and a 60 lb fish about 7:30pm. At 10pm we catch another rat and release it too. At midnight the 200’ bait goes off and we’re hooked up again. The fish too 300 yards of line off the reel in no time and the angler was smiling form ear to ear! Fred has already caught Swordfish with us and his biggest was over 200 lbs. He wants a bigger fish! Well 2 hours later the fish was still taking line and when we did gain line the fish wouldn’t get closer than 200’ from the boat and off it would go again.

Finally after 2 1/2 hours the fish we caught the fish. The fish was about 250 lbs and kicked our butts!

We decided to put the baits back out and we caught one more and missed a few more small fish. We ended up catching 5 out of 9 bites. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Last week we went 3 for 3 one night and 1 for 2 the next night!

The daytime fishing has been good too. Sailfish, Mahi-mahi and King Mackerel have been biting real well. Last Friday, we had over a dozen nice Mahi-mahi, one Sailfish and 2 nice sized King Mackerel. All on live bait in 150’ of water off the steeple.

Fishing is great and we’ve been out almost every day (and night) these past two weeks, so you better get out there!

Catch-em-up,

Yes, we took a few pictures and we will try to get them on here this weekend. Fish all day, then fish all night and then again the next day doesn't leave to much time to write a report and download photos! But then again, I still enjoy the fishing!
