Default Canyon Runner Sail/Sword report 1/25

Today we took the Canyon Runner charter group of Richard Steer for a full day of sailfishing and a night of swordfishing. We started out just south of Hillsboro and we head of a great bite the day before. Needless to say those fish that were there had moved on and the fleet was struggling to find 1 sail! We made a few drops around some bottom structure and pulled a nice 10lb mutton and 1 undersize grouper. We proceeded to run north and we saw a free jumper in like 180 so we put the baits out. We quickly raised a sail and the fight was on! After a lengthly battle we got a clean release on a 65lb sail. As soon as we got the baits back in the water we had another sail slashing around the spread but all he did was knock one bait off and swim away.
Now, we head to the swording grounds! We started on the 26.05 in about 1400' of water. Just as the sun was setting baits were gettings slashed but we couldn't get a slid take. Finally just as the sun was going down we put a nice 52" fish in the boat and we are ofically 1/2 by 6:15. Get the lines back out and we immediately hook up with a 50lb brown shark. Get setup again and we quickly got another sword on but we pulled the hook after 5 minutes of pulling drag. Our next bite was another 40-50lb brown shark and while we had him at the boat our long float started taking drag, we hooked up solid and put a 54' sword in the boat at 7:30. We then let the drift go, but we hit deeper wateer and we stopped getting bites. We made a wiggle and put the baits in and the deep rod gets hit but we didn't come tight on him and the bait wasn't touched. As i reeled it up i though i saw a sword follow it up, but wasn't sure. 5 minutes later the rod closest to the boat gets hit and we have another sword on! This one was fiesty and went through both Rich and Bob, but they got him comming and we boated a 56" fish that Looked to be around 100lbs! with three in the boat we called it a night at 11:45 and headed home!
