Today we had the Canyon Runner charter group of Dave Tolchen again out on the Big Boy for another day of sailfishing. Today bait was a little easier and we got all we needed from the bait boat out of Boca. We were running out of Boca inlet and immediately saw hoards of birds on the horizon and headed to them and set up the kites. We pounded tem for about 2 hours and nada. We were sonstanly marking bait, but for the most part the birds were picking in the weeds being pushed up again the wind. We proceeded to work our way south and every time we reached 180-200ft deep we would get a pair of Mahi's on. We ended up boating 4 mahi today all between 8-12 lbs and then the king bite started. We moved over lots of bait and you could see the kings streaking through them on the sounder. The deep rod quickly got slammed, then the left long rigger, and the right short rigger. One bit us off and we quickly released 2 kings each around 14lbs. Next we dropped the kig down and it got slammed about 50ft down and we released another king around 12lbs. The bite slowed but we did manage 2 more kings up to 14lbs and called it a day, not ever seeing a sail today. Reports were strong from Palm beach and Stuart...also from Miami, we were stuck in the middle!
