[Canyon Runner]

Today we took the Canyon Runner charter group of Dave Tolchen out for a day of sailfishing aboard the Big Boy with Capt. Jason Neadel, mates Rudy and myself. Today was a rought start from the get go! The only live bait boat out of Hillsboro was broken down and because of the rough weather the night before none of the other bait boats had goggle eyes from boca to port everglades. We trecked down to the Sands and picked up 15 pilchards and 8 blue runners and we headed off. The strong outgoing tide proved to be unproductive for the early part of the day. Just as the tide started to turn the mahi bite was on...We got invaded with 30+ mahi from 5-15lbs and proceeded to catch and release 6 or 7 and kept 2 for the table. We got organized and set up the kites again and immediately had a turtle come right through the kites and he had some more mahi for us, and we release two nice 12lb bulls. While we were changing out the short kite bait the long bait got slammed by a itty bitty sail and he managed to jump off with the bait still attached to the hook. We finished the day dropping on the stink hole and pulled a 25lb amberjack and headed home.
