Today Capt. Jason, Rudy and I had Rich Alverado and Joe Egan our again for a day of sailfishing on the BIG BOY. Unfortunately we had to cancel our sword trip for the night before due to high winds! Today the wind cooperated, however you needed a massive amount of rain gear to stay dry. We started off were we have been seeing most of our sails, about 2 miles south of Boca Inlet in 200ft. We set up and quickly got pounded with rain, but the kites stayed up so we kept plugging away. It proved to be a slow morning having no bites before 10:30AM. We were constantly moving to find some bait, birds or something that looked like it might have some fish in it. We finally found a nice color change/rip in 230' off the boca hotel. This rip had solid bait from 50'-150ft down...we put some flat lines out and in 5 minutes we had a double header on. One quickly jumped at the boat and threw the hook and we released the other. We put the lines back out and immediately had one more sail come up and chase 3 of our baits but turned its nose up and swam away.
We then made a move inside were we saw lots of flyers getting up and we marked AJ's solid at 40' down. First bait got slammed and we released a 25lb AJ. Then the last bite of the day was a 30lb brown shark, which was also released.
