Default A quick time report

Today, Wednesday the 12th, I took out Lenny Gerylo from Virginia and had a great day. Seas were 3-5 feet and winds were 15 mph out of the east. Rays live bait had Tinker Mackerals today, one of my favorite baits that only show up in the winter. We missed our first 3 fish as i was setting up the kite lines. Something with teeth was hitting the bait so hard knocking them off the hook and a few were all bit up and slashed even before the rods were set.
Next one of the flat lines went off and wouldn't stop. We saw a quick jump and then 300 yards of line just peeled off before I could reel in the other rods and get the boat started. 45 minutes later a tailhooked Sailfish comes to the boat and needed about 15 minutes of resucitation. My ribs were killing me as I was bent over the side in 3-5 seas as lenny drove the boat foward. We took a little break then decided to troll our baits. I put out a Tinker way back then a pilchard. The pilchard gets nailed and I pulled it out of his mouth as I was setting the rod in the holder, so I reeled it in and it was crushed, an obvious billfish attack. Within about 1 minute the way back rod with the Tinker bends over and screams more than the last fish. Again I had to start the boat and give to chase as close to 400 yards of line is coming of the reel. This fish was big. He took us out near 400 feet and stayed deep around 200 feet or more underneath us. A half hour goes by and here comes color. Next we see the fish. I was expecting to see a nice shark but not this time. Once again a tail hooked fish gets to the boat. 2 Sailfish hooked in the tail in the same day. The fish was beautiful and still all lit up. Within 2 minutes of holding him in the water he was ready to go. I'll be out tomorrow and Friday, hope the fishing keeps up.
Till Next Tide,
Captain Cary Hanna
