Default Veteran's Day Reef Report

This past week we have been fishing on the reef mostly. Fishing on the reef has been pretty decent. This past weekend I had 2 afternoon trips. Friday afternoon started off pretty well. We had goggle eyes in the well, and caught some herring on the way out. I decided to run south towards triumph reef. Just before i got to the area i wanted to start fishing, I spotted a frigate bord diving in about 60ft of water. I quickly turned in shallow and caught up to the diving frigate. I fired out a couple of baits. With- in seconds we were tight on a double header of sailfish. I had a first time lady angler onboard, so she was very excited. We ended up landing 1 of the 2 sails a few kingfish, a couple of sharks, and a nice amberjack.

Saturday I had a couple of nice guys from New York. We got out to the reef at about 1:30 only to find a trickle of current and dirty green water. I ran to the south to try and find better water but i only found the same conditions. I set up in 160ft of water and we immediatle had a kingfish on. Fishing was pretty slow for everyone out there. A few people were able to get into some sailfish. We never got our shot at sailfish saturday. Eventhough fish was slow we managed to catch a few fish. We ended the day with 2 kings, a few cut-off's, a shark, and a really nice black grouper that we opted to release.

Swordfishing was pretty good over the weekend. I didnt make it out, but i herd of a lot of fishing being caught, and a few fish over 250lbs. You have to watch the winds, and get out there when you can. Remember that sailfishing is usually best when its too bad to get out swordfishing. Also, Tarpon will start showing up in the next few weeks, and will remain here until June. Winter season allows us to make many a few combo trips. We do sailfish/swordfish combos, and Sailfish/Tarpon combos also. You can't beat spending the afternoon offshore fishing for sailfish, the either running way offshore looking for swordfish<weather permiting> or fishing along the beach for tarpon. So give me a call and let's get out there and catch some fish!

Tightlines,

Capt Joe M
