Well with a strong north wind we only had about 30 boats enter the DSOM2 this past weekend. There were swell over 10ft reported and the fishing was pretty decent. We Left from Stiltsville at about 5pm and headed out to catch some runners at the Monument Bouy.Met up with Ray Rocher and crew there.Runners were think,in about 5 minutes we had about 8 baits and were on our way.It was a nice 6' swell running out, with a light chop on the surface.
We made it out to the grounds at about 7 and began to set up when lines were called in.At 8:00 we got a bite on the deep rod,got tight and the fish for about 5 minutes then the hook pulled,or so we though. We get the line in and we were bitten off by a shark. We send the baits back out and at about 9:30 we get a bite on the close jug,and boat a 53" swordie. We quickly send that bait back out and finish out that drift.
At 12pm we run out a little deeper and set up.We do a short drift of about 4 miles with out a hit,so i decided to run to "Ole Reliable South" and set up right on top of a hole we have caught plenty of fish from.We get all the baits back out at 1:30,and at exactly 1:55 we drifted over the hole and the deep rod gets hit.The fish pulled off anywhere from 200-300yrds of line at 20lbs of drag. After about 15 minutes we pulled the hooks on what we all believed to have been a really nice fish.Oh well, thats swordfishin.WE ended the night going 1-2 on swordies, and 0-2 on sharks.
The bite is definetly starting to pick back up out there. When this wind dies lets get out there.Great Job to the Top 3 boats, and an especially good job to the Double D for weighing in a sweet 172lb winning fish.Shoot me an e-mail if your interested in a charter in the future.
